Moraga sits in a bowl of hills with no freeway through it, which is unusual this close to the tunnel. Saint Mary’s College has been in town since 1928 and gives Moraga a scale and a rhythm of its own.
Why people move here
- No freeway. Getting here means Moraga Way or Moraga Road over the hills from Orinda or Lafayette — about ten minutes to either BART station.
- The Lafayette–Moraga Regional Trail runs the length of town on the old Sacramento Northern rail line, paved and nearly flat.
- Saint Mary’s College brings a theater, a museum, and a basketball arena to a town of under 17,000.
- Moraga Commons Park carries the summer concert series; Rancho Laguna backs straight into open space.
Neighborhoods
Rheem Valley holds one of the town’s two shopping centers and the Rheem Theatre. Campolindo climbs the hillside near the high school of the same name. Sanders Ranch and the Moraga Country Club sit at the eastern end, backed up against the hills.
Like Lafayette and Orinda, Moraga runs a K–8 district of its own and sends high schoolers to Acalanes Union.
